There's one part of writing that I both love and hate and that is the submission process. I have been through a roller coaster of emotions over the last few years in regards to submitting manuscripts, getting excited, getting rejected #boo and then starting again and yet I can honestly say that I still love the process of writing query letters and waiting for feedback. As a writer that is a rare thing to enjoy doing.
Star Struck was originally called Psyche Dreams, which is the name of Jag and Ash's band. But as I do, I decided to change the title of the book at the last moment. I LOVED writing this book and I did so very, very quickly living and breathing the world of Aria, Jag and Ash in a little English village. I knew Aria was going to be an artist, because, well, I tend to write characters who are artists. I think it's because I am not an artist and I would love to be one that I am drawn to them as characters.... but that is a topic for another post! But from the moment I started writing I wrote Star Struck very quickly - in maybe three weeks. I edited in another week and then I did a very, very naughty thing and queried it to a couple of publishers. The minute I hit send on my query emails I cringed wishing I could pull it back in and go over it a few more times knowing that there was probably a lot in there that didn't work. But there was no point dwelling so I promptly pushed it from my head. The next day however I got an email from a fabulous lady over at Liquid Silver Books (one of the publishers who I dared send my ms too) who told me she loved it! Loved it!! And she wanted more, in particular Ash's story, which of course I plan to do. I was overwhelmed by her love for this story so quick off the bat!! And I signed with LS Books. YAY - signing a contract is always so exciting!!!! Champagne popping exciting!! I am VERY excited to be publishing with Liquid Silver Books. So far I have had nothing but the best communication and information from them. I don't have a date for Star Struck as yet, but I will definitely be posting it when I know as well as the cover. In the meantime I will leave you with a little snippet from Star Struck. A conversation between Jagger, Ash and Aria. ‘Superstition I get,’ I told them, ‘I don’t walk under ladders. I knock on wood, but this…’ This was ridiculous. This was taking superstition to a whole new level. And I didn’t want any part of it. ‘She’s scared Jag.’ ‘I know. And she only knows half of it.’ ‘Maybe we should tell her all of it.’ ‘I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t want to scare her away.’ ‘She’s already scared. I think she might even run away.’ ‘I won’t let her.’ I snapped my head back and forth between them. They were carrying on a conversation as if I wasn’t even there and yet neither of them lifted their eyes from my face. Heat ran the length of my body and my head spun a little. I wasn’t sure if it was from the drink, which I had finished, or from the intensity of them. Just a little teaser - will share more soon! thanks for stopping by Bye for now, Andi xx
