I live in a house that is often FULL of boys ranging in ages from ten to sixteen. Plus of course there is hubby who can be the biggest boy of all. So when I write I need to tune out from my 'real' world in order to escape to the 'fictional' world where my characters live. This can be difficult when the sounds of video games, screams, gun fights and games of chasey fill the house. I can do romance when there is a thirteen year old complaining in my ear that they are hungry. It just doesn't work.
But what does work is popping in my earphones and opening up Pandora. I normally find a song that is inspiring for my characters and create a channel based on that. I then note down the songs that I absolutely love and which I feel provide the right background for my characters and their interactions. Then I turn to iTunes and create my own play list.
For Psyche Dreams, my current work in progress, I started with a Lifehouse song that I adore - All In. I then ended up with quite an extensive playlist that included the following:
These are just a few of the songs that inspired scenes between Jagger and Aria in Psyche Dreams. I will leave you to work out which ones.
Happy reading and listening!
